Gold Coast Hockey Centre COVID-19 Update

The Gold Coast Hockey Centre has enacted policies and procedures to try and mitigate potential exposure and spread of COVID-19. Several weeks ago we have reached out to Hockey QLD and Hockey Australia as the governing bodies of our sport for their feedback and direction and action plans should a player become infected. They had all CEO’s in Melbourne recently and this was on their agenda for discussion. As expected they have come out with a press release which can be accessed below.

As far as what we are doing right now based on the feedback we have received from QLD Health and other sources we have already taken the steps below:

• The number one thing people can do to protect themselves is wash their hands regularly. 
• We have put up signage in every bathroom and changeroom prompting people to wash their hands.
• Signage has also gone up in all bathrooms educating people on Coronavirus symptoms and reinforcing good hygiene processes.
• There are hand wash soap dispensers and hand dryers in all public toilets and changerooms for everyone's convenience.
• During the week we are limiting public access to only the public toilets at ground level so as not to potentially spread germs across multiple locations.
• Public toilets and bathrooms during the week are cleaned daily using a bleach / anti bacterial solution which is the recommended product.
• Changerooms are cleaned daily on the weekend and on Monday morning before being locked down during the week.
• Any GCHMG staff reporting to work showing any signs of illness are to be sent home immediately.
• Disinfectant spray is to be used on counter tops and bench tops throughout the day in both the bar & canteen.  The same solution will also be used in the public bathrooms and changerooms.  Supplies are also provided in tech benches.
• We are sourcing extra supplies of hand sanitizer as this is a product that has become very difficult to obtain.  Once we have stocks these will also be provided in the bar, canteen and both tech benches.
• Anti bacterial wipes are provided in both tech benches for regular cleaning of computer keyboards and mouse and bench tops.
• Signage is being prepared at entrances to remind people attending that may feel unwell to think about entering for the safety of all members.
• All public toilet entrance doors will be hitched open until further notice so as not to spread germs from the opening and closing on entry door handles.

We have taken as many precautions possible right now to protect members and limit the spread of any potential virus that may be brought into the Gold Coast Hockey Centre.  This is a ever evolving situation where further steps may need to be taken to protect the spread of COVID-19.
