The GCHMG board has been working tirelessly with contractors and the Commonwealth Games organising committee to not only ensure the new Hockey precinct is hockey ready, but also importantly it remains sustainable financially moving forward. The priority has been to make sure we build a legacy asset that isn’t costly to maintain or becomes a white elephant like some Olympic and Commonwealth Games venues have done previously. When the GCHMG received the schedule of works in September a number of important items required further attention to make sure they were not missing from the final completed project. Submissions were made that the GCHMG felt were critical components for the sustainability of the facility post games. These changes have included:
These important changes will benefit the entire Gold Coast Hockey community and allow for growth well into the future. The GCHMG has created a sustainable budget that will ensure the assets are kept in premium condition and refurbished when required. Turf fees have been minimised to make them the most competitive in the South East Region. Members will have access to brand new world class facilities at the most competitive rates.
